Autofeeder Calf Training Tips

A critical component of raising calves with an autofeeder is successfully training them to drink from it. In this brief how-to video we learn from Dan Truttman, of Truttman Dairy in Blanchardville, Wisconsin.

Dan began using autofeeders on his dairy in 2016, and today he feeds 4 pens of calves with 2 autofeeders. When training calves to drink continuously, he recommends calves have a strong appetite before guiding them to the autofeeder which he demonstrates in this brief video. Dan also explains how he uses the data from the autofeeder to manage the training process.
